Tune Talk family plan safeguards children across media

Tune Talk Sdn Bhd introduced the Epik+ Family Safe mobile plan on June 25, aiming to shield children from harmful online content. The service, part of the ‘Kasi Tune’ campaign, includes network-level parental controls developed with Nokia. Tune Talk CEO Gurtaj Singh Padda highlighted the plan’s role in blocking access to adult content and unsafe websites for users under 16. This initiative marks a significant step in promoting online safety, particularly for younger users who are more vulnerable to online threats.

Network-Level Controls Block Bypass Attempts

The plan features a one-tap parental control system in the Tune Talk App, offering low, medium, and high protection levels. These settings filter content across 56 categories, including spam and bypass tools. Nafis Nazri, head of product, emphasized the controls operate at the telco layer, ensuring children cannot circumvent them by uninstalling apps or changing device settings. The network-level approach provides a robust defense mechanism, as it is more challenging for users to bypass compared to traditional app-based solutions.

Filtering occurs directly within the telecom network, limiting the use of VPNs and proxy services. The system automatically applies restrictions regardless of the device or app used. Starting at RM80 monthly, the plan covers one parent and one child line, with additional children added at RM20 each. A total of 700GB of shared data is included. This generous data allocation allows families to stay connected without worrying about excessive data consumption, making it an attractive option for households with multiple users.

The collaboration between Tune Talk and Nokia demonstrates a commitment to providing a secure online environment. By developing network-level parental controls, the companies aim to prevent children from accessing harmful content, including adult material and unsafe websites. This proactive approach to online safety is key in today’s digital setting, where children are increasingly exposed to online threats. The Epik+ Family Safe mobile plan serves as a valuable tool for parents seeking to protect their children from the potential risks associated with online activities.

Parental Guidance as a Complementary Tool

Tune Talk’s general manager of marketing, Jill Yeap, noted the plan serves as an extra layer of protection alongside parental education. The service does not replace direct supervision but reinforces it through technical barriers. The network-level approach contrasts with app-based solutions that rely on user compliance. By providing a full safety net, the Epik+ Family Safe mobile plan empowers parents to take a more active role in monitoring their children’s online activities, supporting a safer and more responsible online environment.

The plan’s pricing structure allows flexibility for families. While the base rate covers one child, adding up to three more costs RM20 each. The 700GB data cap accommodates multiple devices without sacrificing performance. The system’s design prioritizes ease of use for parents while maintaining strict safeguards.

Tune Talk aims to provide a safe online environment. They developed this plan to help parents protect their children.

The launch of the Epik+ Family Safe mobile plan marks a significant milestone in Tune Talk’s efforts to promote online safety. By collaborating with Nokia and leveraging their expertise in telecommunications infrastructure, Tune Talk has developed an innovative solution that addresses the complex challenges of online safety. As the first mobile telco in the world to enforce a network-level ban on social media access to children below 16, Tune Talk sets a new standard for responsible and proactive online safety measures, paving the way for a safer and more secure digital setting.
