Oxford Metrics plc has agreed to acquire the assets of Move AI, a 3D motion data firm, in a cut-price deal. The acquisition is part of the company’s efforts to expand its motion capture capabilities. Move AI’s technology combines artificial intelligence, computer vision, and human biomechanics to convert video into detailed 3D motion data without the need for markers or specialist suits.
The firm has worked with several high-profile clients, including EPIC Games, Ubisoft, and Sega, as well as major entertainment companies such as Disney, Sony, and Vital. Move AI reported revenue of £1.1 million in the year ended 31st December 2025. However, the consideration for the acquisition is £525,000 in cash, or £725,000 inclusive of immediate transaction expenses.
Acquisition Details
Under the agreement, Vicon, the motion capture arm of Oxford Metrics, will take over Move AI’s technology, intellectual property, patents, specialist staff, and client base. This deal follows Vicon’s recent purchase of Captive Devices, a Manchester-based company that enhanced Vicon’s markerless facial capture capabilities alongside its existing body-tracking systems.
The modest purchase price reflects a broader decline in investment across the film, TV, and gaming sectors. Oxford Metrics recently disclosed revenues that fell short of forecasts, citing weaker demand for virtual production stages and delays in several major contracts.
Financial Performance
Oxford Metrics has changed its accounting reference date from 30th September to 31st December. The company’s FY26 revenue is expected to be £47m to £51m, with an adjusted EBIT loss of £500,000 to £3.9m, which is below current market expectations. Demand remains more resilient in location-based entertainment and selected Asian markets.
In the health and life sciences division, tight research budgets and institutional funding constraints, especially in the United States, continue to slow customer purchasing. A new round of cost-cutting measures, including workforce reductions, is expected to generate between £1.5 million and £2 million in annual savings.
Leadership Changes
Earlier this year, Oxford Metrics announced the departure of CEO Imogen O’Connor after 25 years at the helm due to health issues. Stefan Lampa has been named as her replacement and is set to join the company on December 1st, 2026. He will lead both Oxford Metrics and Vicon following the consolidation of their leadership roles.
Gary Bullard, non-executive chair, has acted as interim CEO in the meantime. Bullard stated that trading in established markets has been more difficult than expected, but the company is making progress on changes needed to improve profitability. The acquisition of Move AI is expected to accelerate Vicon’s markerless strategy and open new markets.
